In Irish hotel construction, three- and four-star bedrooms are usually 50–58 mm (GD 2), while five-star and premium boutique rooms often run 55–65 mm (GD 2.5) with deeper traps. Food and beverage, wellness and plant areas take larger sizes. Properties with self-catering lodges or apartments generally need a mix. Green Drain is made in 11 sizes from 1.25″ (32 mm) to 6″ (150–156 mm).
The expected service life is about five years in normal use. A visual check once a year as part of planned maintenance is all it asks for — no scheduled removal in between.
A good fit. Glamping pods, lodges and self-catering units generally have standard 2″ traps, so the GD 2 suits them — and these are exactly the units that sit closed for weeks at the end of the season, which is when a trap dries out.
Same answer. A short-let unit that goes unlet for a few weeks — over the winter, or between tenancies — has exactly the same dry-trap problem, and hosts tend to find out about it from a review rather than from a check.
