Thousands of drains.
One specification.
The whole campus.

University campus — dozens of buildings, laboratories, cafeterias, dormitories, sports facilities. The technical service cannot manually inspect every drain trap during each summer standby. Green Drain™ solves the entire network through a single procurement by standardizing.

Problem & solution

Specific challenge large campuses

Irish universities and Technological Universities across Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and the regions. Each campus runs its own technical service, its own solutions, its own local practices. Standardisation is difficult.

Without Green Drain™

  • Dormitories operate at minimal capacity over the summer—the drains in the empty rooms are drained.
  • Laboratories with chemical drains have specific resistance requirements.
  • Menze (Student Center) has a classic HoReCa problem with flies and odors.
  • Campus sports centers — large-sized shower stalls
  • The technical service is requesting documented control measures for auditing and public procurement.

With Green Drain™

  • Compatible with the EN 1253 standard — covers most European traps
  • Resistant to laboratory chemicals (dilute HCl, dilute H₂SO₄, organic solvents in brief contact)
  • Consistent specification across the entire portfolio — easier maintenance
  • Solution for student housing via summer standby (as with schools)
  • ASSE 1072-2020 public procurement documentation
Irish higher education

System with 138 thousand students.

According to the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Ireland has ~250,000 students in higher education across the universities (TCD, UCD, UCC, NUI Galway, MU, UL, DCU) and the Technological University network. Each campus includes dozens of buildings — refectories, halls of residence, science blocks and sports facilities — many running seasonal summer operations and conference schedules.

Implementation

Step by step through the portfolio

Campus technical services will take the specification. Implementation over 3–5 summer seasons, prioritizing buildings.

01

Master plan

The campus maps all buildings and estimates the number of drains by building type.

02

Pilot

One building (e.g., a dormitory) — pilot installation, one-season evaluation.

03

Tender

Central procurement — ASSE 1072 specification, delivery within 3 years.

04

Roll-out

The technical service is installing them in each building during the summer work.

Model Recommendation

Recommendation per type of building on campus

Irish university and IoT campuses — TCD, UCD, UCC, NUI Galway, University of Limerick, DCU, ATU, TUS, MTU and the technological university network — combine listed heritage buildings, post-2000 builds, student residences, refectories and sport / aquatic facilities. Standardisation across the campus portfolio means a mix of all sizes, but GD 2 dominates because most sanitary fittings run DN50.
